Excess crustal calcium problem

Ricardo M. Pytkowicz
Geochemical Journal, Vol. 13, No. 1, P. 15-17, 1979

ABSTRACT

RONOV and YAROSHEVSKY (1969) observed the abnormally high calcium content of the earth crust and LOWENGART (1975) explained it as resulting from exchange between oceanic magnesium and mantle calcium. An alternate explanation is presented, namely, that the excess calcium results from the conversion of plagioclase feldspars into carbonates.
